I have to be honest when I first got the email inquiring about this session--I was so excited. This was a photographers dream come true--people wanting to capture a piece of their childhood home before their parents placed it on the market.
The three grown kids planned one last weekend together, "the original 5" as they jokingly called themselves., and asked me to join them as a surprise for their parents, who had been living in this house for 43 years. Apparently, both parents teared up when they told them what they had planned -- a sign of what a thoughtful and treasured gift this was to them!
The plan was for me to photograph some classic details of the stunning family home, along with some sentimental shots of the family, and a few hilarious re-creations of some childhood photos. I, of course, was ALL IN! As we wandered around the house, up the beautiful stairs and around the property, I heard some sweet stories and some hilarious "back staircase" late night tales!
It definitely was NOT difficult to find beauty in even some of the most ordinary things that make a house a home...
This was such an honor for me, and I hope that I helped capture some special memories and small details for this sweet family as they move into the next chapter in their lives. (And, P.S. I think this is the BEST idea! More families need to do this as adults and/or before they move. Really!)
